Sophie Turner is the first member of the Royal Australian Air Force to wear a uniform in uniform in Australia’s first compulsory education campaign.
The first two years of the programme have been designed around teaching students about how the military operates.
“We’ve had to do a lot of learning,” Ms Turner said.
“In the first year, we were a little scared about the uniform.”
It’s important to make sure that the students understand how we operate and we’re all professionals, and that’s the important thing, so that’s why we’re wearing our uniforms.
“That’s what’s so cool about it, we’re the first ones to do it, so it’s not like it’s just for us.”
The second year, it was a little more relaxed, we had more freedom to wear what we wanted.
“But now, we have to be careful about it.”
Ms Turner will wear a special uniform for the first time, a white helmet and helmet with black stripes, in an event called “Sophie’s Uniform Day”.
The uniform will be worn by military personnel from the Royal New Zealand Air Force (NZAF), the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and the Australian Special Operations Command (ASOC).
“We have to learn a lot from our history and what’s going on in the world,” she said.
The uniform was designed to give an education for children about how they can operate in the military, including military history.
“I think it’s good for students, because if they’re not going to have an understanding of the armed forces and the military history, they can actually have an appreciation of what’s required of them in terms of the job they do,” Ms Taylor said.
Students will also have the opportunity to take part in military activities, like parachuting and other military activities.
The program was created in the wake of the 2015 Paris attacks, which saw a series of terrorist attacks across the world.
“When we were looking at that, we decided that we needed to make an education program to teach young people about how to survive a terrorist attack, so we decided to make it compulsory for everyone,” Ms Thompson said.
She said it was important for the military to teach students about their role in the global community.
“You know, when we think about how we work together, how we get our missions done, how do we keep the peace and all of those sorts of things, how much we contribute to the world, we know that the military has an important role in our society,” Ms Thomas said.
