What Is the Difference between a Degree And A Certificate?
The key points to consider are:A degree is a qualification that provides a level of learning for a particular level of achievement in specific subjects, such as a university degree.
It is the same as a Certificate of Secondary Education (CSE) but it has been extended to cover more subjects.
There are two types of certificates, certificates of achievement and certificates of completion.
Certificates of achievement (CAs) are awarded for achieving certain milestones, which can range from getting a degree or being recognised as an exceptional performer in a particular subject.
For example, an Associate of Arts degree is considered to have reached certain milestones for achievement.
The certificate of completion (CoE) is awarded to those who have reached a certain milestone in the completion of a degree programme.
For instance, a BSc degree is given to those whose courses have been completed.
A degree, certificate and CoE are all recognised as separate categories, so you can’t get an Associate degree if you are not a doctor, nurse or other trained medical practitioner.

If you are seeking a Bachelor’s degree, apply to be registered with the College of Ireland (CI) in Dublin.
The CI is a public body that administers courses and certificates for students who are already enrolled in courses.
You do not need to be enrolled in any courses in order to apply for registration.
If applying for a Bachelor Degree, your application will be assessed against the minimum standard of the Irish university sector.
The minimum standard is a set of requirements for the courses that will be accepted for the degree.
Applicants must also be able to demonstrate that they have been taking courses that meet the minimum standards in their area of study, including an English or maths degree.
If your degree is granted, you will need a Certificate Of Achievement (CA) and a CoE (co-accredited) to show that you have achieved your degree milestones.
You will also need to apply to register for the CA.
If your certificate is granted and you are a member of a registered student union, you are automatically entitled to a certificate of recognition.
If an application is rejected for any reason, you may appeal against the decision in the College’s administrative appeals process.
For more information on applying for your certificate, see our Certificate Of Excellence.
You can apply in person, by post or by phone to the Registrar of Higher Education.
If a certificate is approved, the applicant will be notified of the date and time when the application will receive further consideration.
The application process is quick and easy, with a fee of €150.
If all you need is a letter from the CA, you do need to pay a fee to the CA to obtain this information.
